
Boston University College Republicans Club Constitution
Article I - Name
Section 1: The official name of this organization shall be the Boston University College Republicans Chapter, referred to as "the Chapter" or "BUCR" throughout the rest of the constitution.

Article II - Aim/Purpose
Section 1: The purpose of this club is to help students engage with the political community and become more informed on what is going on in the world around them. Through discussion, debate, and engaging with primary sources, we aim to develop a more educated political dialogue among both our members and the student body at large.

Section 2: Our goal is to promote a free marketplace of ideas and bring together students with a broad array of political backgrounds. In doing so, we aim to foster a community dedicated to open and respectful political dialogue on campus.

Article III - Membership
Section 1: Any Boston University part-time undergraduate, full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic, financial, and disciplinary standing will be eligible for membership.

Section 2: In accordance with University policies, there will be no discrimination on the basis of race, religion, political views, sexual orientation, nationality, handicap, sex, etc.
​
Section 3: Eligible students may become voting members by registering on Engage. They also must attend at least 6 meetings during each academic year, 3 of which must occur during the Spring semester, not including the meeting in which the election occurs.

Section 3.1: The Secretary will be responsible for tracking attendance and keeping the member roster.

Article IV - Meetings
Section 1: The group will meet for regular meetings once a week. The President and Vice President will convene and run the meetings, while the Secretary is in charge of reserving the venue.

Section 2: Executive board meetings will be held weekly or at the discretion of the executive board to determine the agenda.

Article V - Executive Board Structure
Section 1: The members of the executive board are the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Their duties shall be as follows:

President: Presides over all general and executive board meetings. Represents the organization in an official capacity. May create and dissolve committees and appoint/remove chairpersons with majority E-Board approval. Calls meetings, sets agendas, and approves all chapter expenses. Serves as a tiebreaker for all votes except E-Board elections. Nominates a Social Media Director, subject to E-Board confirmation.

Vice President: Presides over meetings in the President's absence. Coordinates campaign activities and works with the Treasurer to organize fundraising events. Temporarily assumes President's duties in their absence or impeachment.

Treasurer: Makes financial reports at E-Board meetings. Manages funds, maintains transaction records, and prepares budgets. Serves as the SAO financial liaison. Works with the VP on fundraising and ensures compliance with financial policies.

Secretary: Keeps meeting minutes, attendance records, sends official correspondence, reserves venues, and manages social media. Publishes and distributes constitutional amendments.

Section 2: Members studying abroad may not hold an E-Board position during the academic year they are not on campus.
​
Section 3: No member may hold more than one executive board position simultaneously.
​
Section 4: Any member may motion to impeach an officer for dereliction of duty.
​
Section 4.1: Impeachment proceedings may begin with a majority officer recommendation or by a motion from any voting member that is seconded and passed by a simple majority.

Section 5: Removal of an officer requires a 2/3 majority vote of voting members present. The officer under consideration loses voting privileges during the proceedings.
​
Section 5.1-5.4: Procedures for impeachment include statements, questioning, voting, and timeline for special elections.
​
Section 6: Only one officer may be subject to impeachment at any time.
​
Section 7: No endorsements of Republican candidates before the primary by the chapter or its officers.
​
Section 8: All E-Board officers must be full-time, undergraduate BU students based in Boston.

Article VI - Executive Board Elections
Section 1: Officer resignation procedures and temporary duty redistribution.

Section 2: Elections occur annually in spring. Declarations are due two weeks before spring break. Elections are held the second general meeting after spring break. Voting is via Google Form, and results are ratified by the E-Board.
​
Section 3: New E-Board members assume duties after the spring semester.
​
Section 4: Voting eligibility requires registration on Engage and attendance at 6 meetings per year (3 in spring).
​
Section 5: Members must submit a form declaring candidacy and goals. These are compiled and shared by email.
​
Section 6: The candidate with the most votes wins. In case of a tie, the current officeholder decides.

Article VII - Faculty Advisor
Section 1: Faculty Advisor assists in major E-Board conflicts, including threats, abuse, or harassment.

Section 2: At least one E-Board member must meet monthly with the Faculty Advisor to update them.
​
Article VIII - Constitutional Interpretation
Section 1: Voting members resolve disputes over constitutional interpretation.
​
Section 2: Robert's Rules of Order govern the club where applicable and not contradictory.
​
Article IX - Amendments
Section 1: The constitution is amended annually by unanimous E-Board approval.
​
Section 2: Any voting member may propose amendments, which require a 3/4 vote of approval.
​
Section 3: Approved amendments take immediate effect.
